Culture as a key pillar for an inclusive, green and sustainable Europe

Advocacy icon

At MCA, we’re committed to shaping a vibrant and inclusive digital cultural heritage sector. From engaging with policymakers to publishing resources, we’re dedicated to advancing the interests of our community. Since its creation, MCA has been involved in discussions and working groups on the place of culture and its values in the European debate and in particular the role of digitised heritage.

We believe that culture is a key pillar of an inclusive, green and sustainable Europe.

Our advocacy actions

Our commitment reflects in our main advocacy actions:

MCA represents its members and the digitised heritage sector in European institutions and at national level.  We take care that the issues related to our members and projects are always present in the collective discussion. We also participate in the most important moments of conversation in the European cultural ecosystem and in major European Networks of professional advocacy: our objective is to highlight the needs of the sector.

We are members of:

  • European Commission’s Expert Group for Cultural Heritage
  • Culture Action Europe: French Hub coordinator and coordinator of the Action Group on Digital and AI
  • European Heritage Alliance 3.0
  • Climate Heritage Network
  • Europeana Aggregators Forum (EAF)
  • Europeana Network Association (ENA): Chair of the Climate Action Community and members of the Diversity and Inclusion Community
  • European Heritage Hub: Advisory Board member

Our collaborations extend to the ENCACT, VIMM+, NEMO, and DARIAH networks. Our overarching goal: broaden our network horizons to foster deeper insights and invigorate the cultural sector.

MCA is committed to ensure that our community has all the information it needs to navigate the European cultural and digital policy landscape. To this end, we publish resources of different kinds, such as

  • our Written-ups: short, graphic and digestible summaries to better understand the actors and initiatives of the European Union in the field of culture – with a focus on heritage – and digital.
  • EUCropolis podcast: the podcast produced by MCA that delves into the main initiatives and policies in Europe that affect our sector. Each episode features interventions from the main actors in the field.
  • MCA newsletter: Receive the latest info about EU cultural policies through our newsletter, with a dedicated section to the subject.

MCA is at the helm of insightful discussions in civil society organizations, to fuel an ethical and just cultural sector. Being together is the most important asset we provide. Together, we’re stronger, more informed, and poised for impactful change. We participate in multiple working groups, aimed at steering the conversation for the cultural sector in the good direction. You can find us in:

  • European Network Cultural Centres (ENCC) Digital Ethics Working Group: to delve into a more ethical use of digital.
  • Civil Society Europe’s Post-Conference on the Future of Europe dialogue: to amplify the cultural dimension in the wider European discussion
  • Action Group on Digital and AI, by Culture Action Europe and MCA: to react unite to the most pressing digital issues for the cultural sector
  • Our collaborations extend to ENCACT, VIMM+, NEMO, and DARIAH networks. Our overarching goal: broaden our network horizons to foster deeper insights and invigorate the cultural sector.

MCA is an expert in channeling the needs of the sector and engaging in dialogue with cultural policy makers: we position ourselves clearly for a more just, sustainable, and accessible heritage sector. Whether in our network action or in the EU projects we follow, we are committed to thoroughly understanding the needs of the stakeholders involved and transforming these needs into specific policy requests.
