Participate to the shaping of the EU Budget – Position Statement by MCA
April 24, 2025
The European Commission has opened a public consultation for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) – the EU long-term budget that influences the funding schemes and the economical vision of the EU. The next one will cover from 2028 to 2034. This long-term framework sets how much the EU will spend and grossly indicates in which direction: then, every year, the budget is detailed and specified.
Of course, culture at the crossroads with innovation, research and education is one of the topics that will be influenced. Among the consultation surveys, there is one focused on culture and education. This is an opportunity for our sector to influence the future direction of EU funding, and to ensure that our priorities are not only protected, but fully integrated into Europe’s vision for innovation, democracy, and resilience. The consultation closes on May 6, so there is limited time: the survey takes only 10 minutes in total to complete and it is mainly composed of closed questions.

We warmly invite you to fill in the survey to demonstrate the strength and coherence of our sector, and to highlight the central role of culture and heritage in shaping the future of the EU.
By creating a collective voice, we can be stronger. You are welcome to answer the survey however you think is best. MCA supports all the statements that have been made by our key partners, specifically the one by Culture Action Europe and the Europeana Initiative.
We are sharing here our contribution to the consultation and invite you to use it.
Our statement is focused on the sector of Cultural Heritage and specifically the Digital Cultural Heritage (DCH) one: we firmly believe they represent a key pillar for sustainable societies. You can find our position linked below.
Feel free to reuse any elements of it as you wish or, if you want, you can add the full document as it is: in the final question “If you wish to attach any relevant documents to support your replies, please feel free to do so here”, upload the PDF attached to this email. The document outlines the values and main components that MCA would like to see reflected in the next MFF.
Whether you decide to add our contributions to your answers, it is fundamental that you give your opinion through the survey, to strengthen the feedback from the cultural sector.
